Rose’s Top Pokemon Go Tips
Like everybody else in the known universe at the moment, we’re a tiny bit obsessed with Pokemon GO and maybe even borderline addicted. Ha!
If you haven’t tried it yet, you must! You can download it for free from the app store. With it being a ‘pay to play’ kind of game I was dubious about just how ‘free’ it was. However, I needn’t have been concerned, we’ve played nonstop this entire past weekend and have not paid a penny.
I’ve done some research, so that you don’t have to and listed my top tips below, some are little obvious, some not so much. Let me know what you think and if you have any of your own that aren’t listed here, please share with the group!
Catch All of The Pokemon
I know this sounds obvious, but I highly recommend that you catch all of the Pokemon. When you’re beginning you’ll be frustrated that there is yet another Pidgey or Zubat but trust me, they’re useful. You’ll get lots of Candies, which will eventually really help you out, when it comes to leveling up and evolving your team. And lots of experience that will go towards your trainer level, super important when your trainer level counts for so much in this game.
Find a route on your map, where there are several poke stops not too much of a distant from each other. Poke Stops appear to refresh every 5 minutes or so, so if you can find a handful of Poke stops near you you’ll have hit the proverbial sweet spot and you’ll be able to farm Poke balls, potions and eggs to your heart’s content.
Spinning Pokeball More XP Trick
When trying to catch a Pokemon, if you put a little spin on that ball, you’ll get a about 50 extra XP. Nice little bonus!
The Pokemon you’re trying to catch will have different colour rings around them when you’re preparing to throw your Poke ball. If you manage to successfully get your Poke ball through that ring you’ll get extra XP. The rings use the traffic light system, green is easy to catch, amber is medium and red is difficult.
The footprints underneath the Pokemon indicate how close they are to you. The Pokemon with the least footprints is closest to you. However, if they all have the same amount of footprints underneath them and you’re not sure in what order to read the list in, the Pokemon at the top left, is the closest to you and the one in the far bottom right slot is the furthest away.
Secret Eevee Evolution Trick
Here’s how to get the type of Eevee you want every single time. The first step is to open the menu and select the Eevee that you plan to evolve, this should be the one with the highest CP. Click the edit button next to Eevee’s name and change it to the appropriate nickname.
Rainer = Vaporeon (Water)
Sparky = Jolteon (Electric)
Pyro = Flareon (Fire)
Remember to capitalise the first letter.
After renaming Eevee and saving, close the game all the way and then restart it. At this point, all that is left to do is click evolve.
Stardust is SUPER Important
Do NOT waste it at the beginning of the game, it’s the primary way to level up your Pokemon and you will need it, in large quantities. Wait until you’re a 10+ level trainer and only use it to level up Pokemon that you intend to battle at gyms with.
High Pokemon Trainer Level = High CP Pokemon
Focus on increasing your trainer level and the rest will fall into place. Catch as many Pokemon as you can, no matter what they are. Visit Poke stops as often as you can, and you’ll naturally find high level CP Pokemon in the wild. You’ll also be able to level up your Pokemon much higher.
During a gym battle, use your attack as fast as you can and do not worry about dodging, it’s a waste of time. You can also take on gym leaders in a group, so essentially if you’re in a group of 3, you’ll be doing three times the damage as what you could do alone. Beware though, the damage is also shared between the group, so you’ll all take damage together.
Be sure to hatch any eggs you find in an incubator. You’ll see that some are hatched at 2km, 5km and 10km. YOu will need to have the app open, for it to track your distance and you can either walk the distance or drive, as long as you stay under about 18 MPH. Here’s a chart of all the Pokemon we know that come out of the different distant eggs, so far:
Lucky eggs give you double XP for 30 minutes, this is one of the fastest ways to level up. You’ll want to catch as many Pidgy, Weedle & Caterpie as you can because these only take 12 Candy to evolve. You get 500XP for evolving them and if you have a lucky egg activated, you’ll get 1000XP. You’re welcome!
